  • About the Speakers...

Captain Haggerty is the founder of Haggerty's School for Dogs, Inc. In the United States, Captain Haggerty is considered the "Grandfather" of dog trainers and dog training. He has trained the country's most prominent trainers. His forty-three years of training dogs full-time doesn't include twenty-one years when he raised, handled, and showed dogs before he decided to train problem dogs and their owners. After spending thirty years owning and operating the largest full service dog training school and boarding kennel in New York City, "the Captain," as he is affectionately known, decided to relocate to the land of sunshine in Los Angeles, opening a West Coast location in 1991. Presently the Captain is living in West Palm Beach, Florida still helping owners and their dogs live in harmony, in-between writing his column for the AKC Gazette, judging dogs, giving seminars to dog trainers and owners, and publishing the "Aggression Newsletter." The Captain has written two books on trick training, "Dog Tricks," published in 1982 and "How to Teach Your Dog to Talk: 125 Easy-to-Learn Tricks" published in 2000, and has trained and handled dogs for over 150 feature films and 450 commercials.

Babette Haggerty-Brennan, CPDT. In 1989, after managing Captain Haggerty's School for Dogs for several years in New York, Captain Haggerty's daughter Babette, moved to Palm Beach, Florida. She has been declared "Palm Beach's Favorite Dog Trainer" and has built up the largest and most exclusive dog training school in Palm Beach County. Babette lectures on canine behavior, adoption, and deepening our relationships with our pets. She has trained dogs for commercials and television shows. Babette was the keynote speaker for the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners Conference in 1997. Babette's first book, "Woman's Best Friend: Choosing and Training the Dog that is Right for You," published in 2003, was well received and she is presently working on her second book.
